BIOGRAPHY
With a background in acting, I’m now most active as a writer, director, performance maker, and lecturer in performance.
As an actor, selected television credits include Coronation Street (ITV), Casualty (BBC), Doctors (BBC), The Royal (ITV), Wire in the Blood (Coastal), Vincent (ITV), and The Street (BBC). Film credits include the adaptation of Kevin Sampson’s novel Awaydays (Red Union Films) and Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood (Universal Pictures).
I am the Artistic Director of Red Players Arts & Media, an independent theatre and film production company based in Manchester. I have written and directed a number of theatre and film productions, including theatre-in-education outputs, and award-winning short films screened at national and international festivals. My freelance work has also involved consultancy in the areas of theatre and film for schools and community organisations, as well as in the commercial sector.
Alongside my work at Salford, I am also currently Principal of the children’s drama school Red Players Academy, and Agent at the associated young performers’ talent agency Red Players Management.

My current teaching also includes:

My main research interests are situated in the broad area of children and performance, both in representations of childhood in performance, and the presence and autonomy of child performers in both live and recorded media.
I am currently working on an interdisciplinary investigation into the politics and practices of making contemporary performance with children and young people.
My practice-as-research activities also include: non-verbal performance practices and creative movement; auto/biographical writing and performance; and post-Stanislavskian acting methodologies.
