Lecturer in Social Work and Integrated Practice

Biography

Julie has been an academic since 2010 in social work. She is a registered social worker (Social Work England) and her area of professional practice is adults. She has also undertaken the roles of Practice Educator (student support), consultant social worker (supervising social workers) and team manager. Julie is the programme leader for the MSc in Applied Social Work Practice. This programme is focused upon registered social workers and their continuous professional development (CPD). We offer a suite of modules which are relevant to professional social workers and their agencies, across the Greater Manchester region.

Julie has also undertaken the role of researcher, within a number of commissioned research projects. These have included; Salford Citizens Advice: National Lottery Community Fund, addressing issues of poverty (2016-21). Trafford Housing Trust, evaluating their service provision on behalf of local customers (2017). Julie is also a MSc and PhD supervisor. She currently supports a number of students undertaking research projects. She is interested in qualitative and mixed methods approach to research, mainly in the field of adults. This can also include health and social care integration, working across boundaries and the notion of multi-agency and multi-disciplinary working across professional disciplines.

Julie also teaches a number of specific modules, relating to registered social workers and also social work students. She also makes a significant contribution towards research methods teaching across the school.
