Senior Lecturer / Programme Lead Advanced Clinical Practice


Annabella joined the University of Salford in 2005 as a lecturer in Adult Nursing. Annabella has a background in emergency nursing and an interest in disaster preparedness which was the focus of her dissertation for her MSc in Public Health which then led her to spend some time in Tanzania working in the area of public health (HIV / AIDS) as a volunteer educating health professionals during that time. Annabella worked as a nurse practitioner in an emergency department and has been involved in the education and training of Advanced Practitioners since 2012 at the University. She is programme lead for both the taught MSc Advanced Clinical practice and the Integrated Higher Degree Apprenticeship for Advanced Clinical Practitioners. Recent publications include a book chapter: Rogers, M. & Gloster, A.S. (2020) ‘Chapter 11: Advanced Practice Nurse Development in the United Kingdom’ in Advanced Practice Nursing Leadership: A Global Perspective. Springer Nature Publishing Group.

Annabella’s teaching ranges from pre-registration student nurses, the use of high-fidelity simulation in skills teaching, post qualified professionals and Advanced Clinical Practitioner trainees. Externally Annabella is the current Chair of the association of Advanced Practice Educators UK (AAPE UK) and is working with Health Education England on a number of projects involving Advanced Clinical Practitioners. Projects include: The development of a core curricula for ACPs, Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) Credentials for Primary Care Core Framework, A curriculum for Surgical Advanced Clinical Practitioners and a national e-portfolio for Advanced Clinical Practitioners. Annabella is a member of the Greater Manchester Advanced Clinical practice group and was one of the founding members. She is a committee member of the International Council of Nurses Nurse Practitioner / Advanced Practice Nursing Network (NP/APNN) Practice Subgroup.
