Launch Global

Following on the success of Launch Festival of Entrepreneurship & Innovation, we are thrilled to present our Launch Global programme. This new initiative was designed to inspire international students to develop their business ideas and help to guide them in exploring entrepreneurship as a career option. The Launch Global Programme will run between 14th June until 31st July and will help students to develop an entrepreneurial mindset, enhance Enterprise and Employability Skills, whether they want to set up a business in their home country or the UK.

A prize pot of £20,000 is also available for our International Business Ideas Competition.

Who is it for?

We welcome all international students and anyone who would like to learn more about the ins and outs of becoming an entrepreneur and starting their business venture. Even if they’re not looking at working for themselves, developing entrepreneurial skills can take them a long way in their career.

The sessions will be extremely helpful for those who are already studying at the University and would like to build their start-up after graduation in the UK or abroad.

Why should you attend?

The Launch Global programme is a five-week virtual programme packed with a series of in depth sessions covering topics such as ideas generation, team building, business planning, marketing, and pitching.

Programme Details:

  1. What is International Business Ideas Competition?

Students will develop an entrepreneurial mindset, enhance their enterprise and employability skills, and have the opportunity to pitch their business idea to the Launch team after 4 weeks of learning and practising. They would then be in with a chance of winning a grant from the £20,000 funding pot in the International Business Ideas competition. We also have other prizes to reward those who deliver the most interesting business ideas in our Elevator Pitching and Pitch Perfect sessions on 9th July 2021.

 

The £20,000 prize pot will be distributed as below:

International Business Ideas Pitching Competition Prizes: Individuals will receive up to £1000 to explore your idea

Pitch Perfect Rewards: £200 x2

 

  1. Who is eligible to apply?

All international students and recent graduates at the University of Salford

 

  1. What’s our requirement?

We would like you to prepare a 10-minute video pitch about your business that will be sent to the judges. The deadline for your submission is midday on 13 July.

Here is an outline for the types of things we need you to cover in your pitch: 

 

  • Introduction (Tell us who you are, what your idea is) 
  • The problem (customers’ problem- what problem is your business setting out to solve) 
  • Your solution (as clear as possible, as simple as possible, why it is a good solution) 
  • Business viability (who is your target market, how will you make a profit, who are you selling to, operations) 
  • The competition (who are the major players, who is offering solutions to the same problem?) 
  • Your Unique Selling Point (what makes your standout from competitors, why should customers choose you)
  • Personal commitment to developing their business 
  • The ask (what will the money be spent on, please provide a budget)
