Which facilities will I have access to?
Computing and software engineering students will have access to Salford's impressive Networking and Project Laboratories, and Specialist Computer Laboratories, at both our Peel Park and MediaCityUK campuses which are home to a variety of industry-standard equipment and specialist software.
Will the university help me to find work experience and industry placements?
Whilst students are responsible for securing their own work experience and industry placements, our tutors will guide and support you through the process. Industry experience not only enables you to apply your knowledge in real-world situations but allows you to form those vital connections early on in your career. We have links with a range of leading organisations and, where possible, will assist students in securing placements.
How will I be assessed during my course?
You will be assessed through a combination of examinations, written assignments, practical tests, projects and software development tasks.
Are there any student-run societies?
There are lots of societies you can get involved with at the University of Salford, including Salford Computing, Steminists, Salford Gaming, Shock Radio and ESports to name a few.
What career opportunities will be open to me when I graduate?
Our computing students graduate with a strong knowledge base, an understanding of real-world problem-solving and demonstrable programming skills, supported by a large portfolio of practical work.
Many graduates choose to work as programmers and software developers, but others progress to other IT-based roles including consultancy, system development, or as computer analysts. Our computer science alumni have found employment with leading national companies across a range of industries, such as Sainsburys, Cisco, Microsoft, SIS, Autotrader, HMRC, Ferranti and Civica, plus local firms emerging in the fast-growing North West tech community.
