Wednesday 19 March 2025
09:30-16:00

We’re so excited to welcome you to campus for your Offer Holder Day! This is your chance to experience life at Salford, meet your future classmates, and explore everything our university has to offer.

To make the most of your visit, be sure to check the information on this page and plan ahead.

What to expect

Morning: Start your day by exploring the University, discovering accommodation options, and learning about the dedicated support available to you as a Salford student. You booked onto these optional sessions when you signed up for the day and can find this detail in your booking email. We will send a reminder of what you booked before the event, so don't worry if you've forgotten!

Afternoon: After lunch (which is on us!) join our Life at Salford talk where our students will tell you all about their experiences as a Salford student. You’ll then head off to your course session, where you’ll dive deeper into your subject and meet your future tutors.

For parents, carers and supporters: While offer holders attend their course sessions, our staff and student ambassadors will be on hand to answer any burning questions you may have.

Optional Sessions

Optional sessions will run from 09:30, every 45 minutes from the SEE building. After check-in, pick up your free hoodie and water bottle, chat to staff on our drop in stands and grab a quick drink while you wait to be guided to your sessions.

What to expect

Session details:

Introduction

You’ll choose workshops based on your degree programme. Outside of these, you can speak with staff and students or ask questions in the concluding Q&A.

Creative Writing Workshop

During this session, Scott Thurston will introduce you to the staple practice of the creative workshop — the writing burst — and will show you how to build the ingredients for a simple composition using words and phrases drawn from your own writing and from that of others. We'll also spend a bit of time with the amazing poetry of Alice Walker. Creative participation strongly encouraged, but you won't be obliged to share anything, unless you want to!

English Literature Workshop

‘Nobody owns anything but everyone is rich’: in this session, we will explore some classic utopian novels, including Thomas More’s Utopia and Herland by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. In so doing, we will discover how novelists have imagined utopian worlds and the devices needed for us to inhabit them.

English Language Workshop

What Makes the News? Understanding News Values: Why do some stories dominate the headlines while others get ignored? In this session, we’ll explore the key news values that shape what gets reported—from negativity and proximity to prominence and novelty. Using real-world examples, we’ll uncover how journalists decide what is “newsworthy” and why certain events capture public attention. We’ll also analyze how newsworthiness is constructed through language, shaping the way stories are framed and understood.

Drama Workshop

What does a character want? what are their hopes, fears, beliefs? In this session we'll take a look at a short extract of the Crucible and start exploring the world of the fascinating and manipulative figure of Abigail.

Concluding Q&A

This is an opportunity to have further one-to-one chats with staff and students.

Travel Bursary

Welcome spinner signage at the University of Salford

To make it easier for you to visit us, we're offering a travel bursary to offset some of the cost of travelling to your Offer Holder Day. You'll need to check in and scan your QR code at the Offer Holder Day to receive it after attending the event (subject to a few basic restrictions, of course).

Our travel bursary is based on how far you’re travelling to the Offer Holder Day and there are five different payment bands. The minimum amount is £15 for those with a shorter journey, up to a maximum contribution of £120 for those travelling from further afield.

Please note that payment is made to the prospective student only, not for each person attending the event.

You will need a UK bank account to receive a travel bursary payment.

FAQs
How does an Offer Holder Day differ from an Open Day?

An Offer Holder Day gives you the chance to explore your course in more detail. The course sessions will offer a taster of what it's really like to study at the University of Salford and to allow you to make sure you have picked the right course and university for you.

It's also a great opportunity to meet your potential future classmates, as everyone attending an Offer Holder Day will be holding an offer for their chosen course.

How to find us?

At the Offer Holder Day, parking will be available at our Peel Park campus car parks. We recommend parking at the Lowry and Delaney car parks (M5 4NJ), or Irwell Place car park (postcode M5 4WT).

The university car parks are likely to be very busy at the Offer Holder Days, so where possible we would encourage you to consider public transport options. We are easily accessible by train and bus, with Salford Crescent train station located directly on the campus.

For full information on how to find us, explore our travel page.

Can I change which optional sessions I attend?

Yes, although we ask you to book on to the optional sessions these aren't set in stone and you can change your mind about the sessions you want to attend. We offer the following sessions at various points throughout the morning:

  • Fees and Funding at Salford - it will soon be time for you to make a start on your student finance application, let us talk you through the process and answer any questions.
  • Student Support and Wellbeing at Salford - feel like you would benefit from some extra support while studying with us? This presentation will advise on topics such as disability support, wellbeing and counselling, diversity, careers, academic support and more.
  • I've Applied, What's next? - congratulations on receiving an offer to study with us, find out more about the next steps of the application process.
  • Sports and Societies at Salford - there's loads to get up to outside of the classroom at Salford, find out more about what our Students' Union has to offer.
  • Campus tour - if you want to explore more of our campus, then come to one of our campus tours which are led by one of our friendly ambassadors. See and hear more about our facilities and what we have to offer.
  • Accommodation tour - our accommodation at Peel Park Quarter and John Lester/Eddie Colman Courts are open all day for you to have a look round. There will also be an accommodation talk at 12.30, we recommend grabbing an early lunch if you're interested in this talk.
Do you have any support for students with a disability?

Yes. If you have a disability, please contact us at enquiries@salford.ac.uk to discuss your access requirements. We’ll then work with you to do everything we can to support you on the day. The askUS team will also be available throughout the Offer Holder Day to discuss the support available to you throughout your time studying at Salford.

You can check our campus for its accessibility using AccessAble's assessment of our campus and facilities.

You can also find out more about accessibility on campus and the Disability and Learner Support team on our website.

We do offer a range of accessible accommodation, although please be aware that for this event you may not be able to view the rooms due to current occupancy. You are welcome to chat to both the Disability Inclusion Service and Campus Living Village staff about the facilities available.

Can my parent/carer/supporter attend the event?

Yes! Parents, carers and supporters are welcome to attend with you.

Do you have prayer rooms on campus?

We have quiet rooms and ablution rooms as well as a Faith Centre. Head to the check-in desk for further information.

What do I need to do after the event?

Accept your offer on UCAS

You can accept a maximum of two choices – one firm and one insurance. You can only have an insurance choice if your firm choice is a conditional offer. If you accept an unconditional offer as your firm choice then the place is guaranteed, so you cannot have an insurance choice. Make sure you know when the deadline is to accept your offer.

Accommodation

If you are planning to move away from home, you will need to start looking for suitable accommodation. The university partner accommodation, run by Campus Living Villages, will open for bookings in the spring time. We will email you in advance to let you know when it will open.

If you initially indicated on your UCAS application that you wanted to live at home and have changed your mind, then this isn't a problem at all.

In the meantime, you can explore all of our accommodation options now!

Student finance

Applications for student finance for courses starting September 2025 to 2026 will open soon. You can find further information on the Gov.uk student finance web pages. Make sure you submit your application in plenty of time, so your funding is in place when you start your course.

Are there other ways to visit if I can no longer attend?

If you can no longer join us at this event, please drop us an email and let us know. We are running multiple Offer Holder Days so you may be able to make it to a future event.

We are also running campus tours throughout the spring and summer, or you can take a virtual tour! To join us for future events, book your place through the Offer Holder Hub.
