Salford first for Student Experience at the 2020 Educate North Awards

On 22 April, the University of Salford collected three awards from the 2020 Educate North Awards, including the Student Experience Award – University Sector for Salford Now and Quays News.

Beth Hewitt, Creative Director, Media City Campus, said: "Such hard work and immense efforts and expertise go into producing each project and it’s excellent to see the achievements of the University of Salford students and staff being recognised and rewarded by winning such prestigious Awards. It’s a team effort and big congratulations to everyone involved!"

The awards were held in an online format for the first time and was hosted by former Political Editor at the BBC, Jim Hancock, and we here at the University of Salford would like to offer our congratulations for all nominees for the awards and the winners.

Sara Hadwin, academic lead for journalism, said: “We are delighted to be recognised for the output of our talented students, dedicated tutors and expert technical staff who contribute in so many ways to Salford Now and Quays News.

“Our journalism platforms - spanning television, radio, online and print – provide students with newsroom experience of creating content 24/7 while providing a valuable news service to our Salford community.

“Involvement with our in-house channels is also great preparation for going on to work with our many industry partners within and beyond our MediaCityUK campus which is brimming with opportunities for our students.”

Robin Brown, Lecturer in Print and Online Journalism at the School of Arts, Media and Creative Technology was proud of his team at Salford Now tweeting: “Recognition of lots of work into launching Salford Now and revamping Quays News over last couple of years by our students and staff.”

The School of Health & Society’s partnership with the Northern Care Alliance also picked up the coveted Business/Industry Collaboration Award

And finally, the University also picked up the External Relations Team of the Year Award for all their dedicated hard work over the last year, including their SalFUNNI fundraiser, their far-reaching Salford Untold campaign and collaboration with the Manchester India Partnership.
