Salford Academic to host Commonwealth Esports Forum

Categories: School of Science, Engineering and Environment

The 22nd Commonwealth Games that is being held in Birmingham is fast approaching with esports taking part for the first time ever as part of a trial.

To celebrate the inaugural Commonwealth Championships, an Esports Forum will be taking place on August 5 which will be co-hosted by Salford academic, Professor Andy Miah, a renowned expert in the esports community.

Professor Miah, Chair of Science and Future Media at the University of Salford said: "It's an absolute pleasure to be hosting the Commonwealth Esports Forum (CEF) this year. The world of esports has come far since the Commonwealth Games were last in the UK and it really feels like history is being made around us. I feel privileged to be a part of this wonderful movement to share the good that we know esports is bringing, especially to the youth of the world.”

The forum will be exploring and debating issues and opportunities for this fast-growing sport with thought leaders discussing what the future holds. There will be a series of panel discussions with tickets for the event being limited.
