A talented Graphic Design student has launched an online store to sell her Manchester themed handmade craft work.
Megan Harvey, who is currently studying BA (Hons) Graphic Design at the University of Salford, launched her online store ‘Omiinae’ on Etsy last year selling her handmade pouches, prints and cards all with a Manchester theme.
She started designing the products in August of last year and took them to the Northern Quarter Makers market for the first time in December.
The name of the business comes from the subfamily of bee ‘Meganomiinae’, Megan took her own name out and named the store Omiinae.
Megan is hoping to move towards clothing, bags and expanding the pouch range further with the help of Launch, as well as looking into sustainable materials.
She explained: “I’m focusing on sustainable and recycled materials like felt made from recycled water bottles, recycled polycotton, materials that make the customer feel like they’re doing their bit because it’s so important in today’s society that we’re doing our bit for the world.”
Omiinae is receiving support from the University of Salford’s incubator unit Launch @SalfordUni. Businesses in the incubator get access to office space as well as masterclasses and one-to-one sessions with experienced entrepreneurs to help focus and build their businesses.
She explained: “I feel like I'm getting the work made, I’m getting it ready to sell but I don't know the best way to go about selling it, I need that support.”
Justyna Turner, Incubation Manager at Launch, said: “Megan is an incredibly talented and passionate designer who has already created some beautiful pieces. I’m looking forward to seeing how she gets on in the future with the support and mentoring from the Launch incubator.”
