North West Regional Construction Awards 2018 open for entries

Wednesday 14 February 2018

THE UNIVERSITY of Salford, Constructing Excellence in the Northwest, and the Centre for Construction Innovation are hunting the cream of the region’s industry.

The North West Regional Construction Awards 2018 celebrates the best people, projects and innovations in a sector worth up to £100bn and creating 5,000 jobs per year.

Housebuilding, rail and motorway upgrades and huge investments in the Mersey Estuary and the nuclear industry have made the region second only to London and the South East for new construction activity.

Now in their 12th successful year, the Awards recognise exceptional companies and projects from across the region that have demonstrated desire and commitment throughout their project delivery in a collaborative and sustainable manner.

Industry collaboration

Among the shortlisted Projects of the Year 2017 were The Storyhouse Theatre & Cinema, Chester; the Intraoperative Centre, The Walton NHS Foundation Trust; and Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre, Oldham.

Peter McDermott, professor of construction procurement in the university’s School of Built Environment and chair of the judging panel, said: “These awards not only showcase the application of world class of design, technical and leadership talent in our region but also encourage collaboration and learning among companies large and small in line with our Industry Collaboration strategy.

"Construction is one of the first industries to get a deal under the government's Industrial Strategy but it is under scrutiny like never before, and the draft deal has highlighted the unsustainable nature of many of the industry's business models."

The winners are announced in June will go head-to-head with other regions for the National Constructing Excellence Awards in November.
