Blackboard and Collaborate
Blackboard is the University’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and is used by staff and students to support learning.
Each academic module has a Blackboard course attached to it and students are automatically enrolled on Blackboard courses each semester.

MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
What can I access...?
All readable, some formatting issues around images and footers may occur with Word docs. PowerPoint slides don’t show transitions, animations or narrations. With MS Office documents, while all devices will allow you to read the files (Android devices will even download to the device), if you want to save or amend them you will need to bear in mind the optional purchase of an Office app suite for your device.
The same applies if your device does not, by default, support a particular file format – it may be possible to add this by purchasing an appropriate app.
These play fine. Apple devices show as an attachment which can be opened from within the app, and Android devices play through the built-in media player app.
It’s advisable to use a dedicated tool such as that built into iTunes to download and manage podcast episodes on your Apple device for later playback. On Android devices while they can be played via the browser, if you navigate away/back, it sometimes continues to play. It is advisable to press pause/stop on the onscreen control, unless you have previously downloaded and transferred to your device, in which case it will play through your media player app as normal.
Collaborate Ultra is a web conferencing tool where staff and students can interact in an online environment in real time. You can chat to each other using a headset and even see each other if you have a webcam. Your lectures and tutorials may take place in a virtual classroom in collaborate and sessions can be recorded by the tutor for later viewing.
Your pc internet browser is used to access the software and works best in Google Chrome (make sure you have the latest version).

If you have problems using audio and video, have a look at the advice on the Collaborate support pages.
Can’t see the Collaborate Link on your BB site using the app?
There is currently a bug in the system which means you may not be able to see the Collaborate link on BlackBoard using the mobile version.
If this is the case, you can log into Blackboard on your mobile device through your web browser. Once you have logged in, click on the ‘join room icon’. This will launch the BB student app on your device directly into the virtual room. You can do the same for viewing the recordings.
This issue does not affect Collaborate access from a pc or mac.
