Your publication choices

Open access provides numerous benefits to researchers, however, some publishers exploit the Gold open access business model by charging open access fees without providing the editorial and other publishing services that are typically associated with legitimate scholarly journals.

This practice is still relatively uncommon, but we’d advise you to be wary when looking for open access journals to submit your work to. You can use the Think. Check. Submit checklist to assess the credentials of a journal or publisher.

The DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) is a “white list” of legitimate open access publishers. Each journal listed has been through a rigorous application process. Some journals listed provide Gold open access without requiring the payment of an open access fee.
