Internship success for first class graduate
A star graduate is on the path to a success after gaining a first class degree and a prestigious internship.
Ahmed Zaman has graduated from the University of Salford with a First in BSc Accounting and Finance and secured a graduate scheme at a leading British builders’ retailer, Travis Perkins.
Whilst studying, the 24-year-old was able to secure a role as a Finance Analyst at Travis Perkins and is pleased to have finally graduated with a First, despite working through the pandemic.
Ahmed said: “My goal had been to achieve a first, so I am very grateful that my hard work and determination has paid off. During the pandemic, the change to online learning certainly did take some adjustment, but I was able to stay focused and meet the deadlines.”
“The tutors were incredibly helpful and on hand to provide support whenever needed.”
Ahmed was able to secure placements at the House of Commons and Scottish Power, and he is thankful to his tutors for helping him do that.
He said: “It’s important for students to understand that there is help available, but if you don't ask, you don't get. It’s as simple as that.”
Before beginning his new role at Travis Perkins in September, Ahmed is already working in his field in the university’s finance department, which he feels has prepared him for hybrid working, alongside studying during the pandemic.
“Adjusting to hybrid working will be challenging for many but studying and working remotely has ensured that I am prepared and adjusted to this new mode of working”
Now that he has graduated, Ahmed looked back on his initial choice to accept his offer from the university versus studying at a Russell Group university.
“Reflecting back on my UCAS choices I believe I made the right decision to come to the University of Salford. Here I was able to grow both professionally and personally, thanks to a supportive and welcoming environment” he shared, “I know from friends at some Russell Group universities, that this hasn’t been their experience at all.”
“Having academics and tutors who genuinely care about their student’s development and progress makes all the difference to your university experience.”
With a job already lined up and prospects that are high, Ahmed is excited to begin his first step on the career ladder and to his dream job of becoming a Chartered Accountant.
