University Induction Activities (New Staff)

As a new staff member, to help you settle in to the University, we have created the 'University Induction' programme that has been designed to complement the local induction process that you receive through your school/professional service area outlined in the Code of Practice for Induction of New Staff.

The information below outlines all mandatory induction activities, who is required to attend/complete each activity and provides booking/access information.

University Induction Event

University Induction - Welcome & Orientation

This event is recommended for all employees
Face to face session.
This session is your formal welcome to the University of Salford and provides you with the opportunity to meet a member of the Senior Leadership team. The content will explore your role in contributing to our strategic goals and values and how you can help enhance the student experience, no matter which type of role you’re in. The session will also cover what you can expect from Salford as your new employer and the learning and development available to you during your time with us.

Mandatory Training (All Staff)

Equality and Diversity An introduction to Equality and Diversity in the workplace.
Health and Safety An introduction to health and safety at the University and your role in helping to maintain a healthy and safe environment.
The Bribery Act An outline of your responsibilities and how to comply with the law.
Data Protection This relates to the holding and processing of personal data and every employee is expected to understand the 8 key principles.
Information Security This provides an overview of your responsibilities in keeping personal information secure at the University.

Please access and complete the above via the Induction Toolkit on Blackboard within your first month.

People Managers

Managing People at Salford

These events are mandatory induction sessions for all newly appointed managers who have a probation period attached to their appointment. Whilst it is recognised that appointees are often very experienced managers, expectations & policies vary between organisations. Other managers are also welcome to attend.

Details: Face to face session plus online toolkits.        

Description: These people manager sessions cover all the essentials of people management practice at Salford and an overview of the policies and procedures that you’ll be expected to understand and utilise as a manager. they comprise of;

(1) Recruitment & Selection training – Facilitated by a member of the Resourcing & Talent Team

(2) PDR Reviewer training – Facilitated by a Learning & Development Specialist

(3) People Management Frameworks training; 

  • Managing Attendance – Facilitated by a member of the Employee Relations Team
  • Managing Discipline  (Online toolkit only)  
  • Managing Grievance (Online toolkit only)

Please note: Participation in the induction programme counts as part of your probationary requirements, therefore you should attend/complete the required elements of the induction programme within your probationary period – this is detailed on your Contract of Employment and offer  letter.  It  is  your  responsibility  to register your attendance at each session (even if you arrive late) so that it can be recorded. Please see details of the probationary requirements on the HR web site.
