Dr Anita Williams

Reader in Qualitative Health Science Research


Following on from many years of clinical experience as a specialist podiatrist Anita became a full time academic at the University of Salford in 1999. She was co-founder of the Podiatry Rheumatic Care Association and chair until 2002. In 2002 she was awarded the British Health Professionals in Rheumatology Silver medal for her early clinical research.

A University of Salford Vice Chancellor Scholarship award in 2000 followed by external funding has supported her research with the award PhD in 2008.  Since then she has completed several research studies resulting in many conference abstract presentations, publication and invitations for keynote lectures both in the UK and internationally. She is also postgraduate research co-ordinator for the School of Health Science.

As well as her undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision of research students she runs a postgraduate course in Therapeutic Footwear which was developed in collaboration with the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists and the British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists.

She is reviewer for ten journals and an advisory board member of the Journal of Foot and Ankle Research and editorial board member of Clinical Medicine: Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Disorders.

She has contributed to several clinical standard documents - Musculoskeletal Foot Health Standards (2008); Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Alliance Guidelines for the management of people with Inflammatory Arthritis

Currently she is a Committee member of the Arthritis Research UK Publications and Education committee, is a Committee member of the Society of chiropodists and Podiatrists Healthy Footwear Guide Group and on the steering group for the NW Allied Health Professions Research Network.
