Dr Steve Atkins

Director of Sport, Exercise and Physiotherapy

Biography

I have a long-time interest in how best to optimize performance. With over 80 publications in peer-reviewed journals, I’ve undertaken research into the determinants of performance, including use of advanced technologies to optimize data measurement in a number of sports. As an accredited sport and exercise scientist with the British Association for Sport and Exercise Sciences, I’ve also worked with many elite and amateur athletes. Having lectured for almost 25 years pedagogy informs practice. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and seek to create optimal learning environments for students. I am also a Chartered Scientist with the Science Council, thereby communicating findings to the widest possible audiences.
