Lecturer in Psychology
Since 2015 I have been a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Salford. I obtained my undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Glasgow. Following this I worked in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Cambridge on a project funded by the High Q Foundation. I then completed an MPhil in Neuroscience from the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Manchester (BBSRC funded).
I am Module Leader for Science of Psychology and contribute to the Cognitive and Biological modules on the undergraduate Psychology programmes.
My research initially focused on the interactions between the arousal system and the circadian system. This work investigated the impact of circadian and photic influences on the neuropeptide orexin. More recently I have focused on the cognitive sciences – both cognitive psychology and cognitive neuroscience. Here interests include how emotion may influence aspects of cognition (e.g., visual attention) as well as how the prefrontal cortex is recruited during emotional/cognitive processing.
