Paul Comfort

Reader in Strength and Conditioning


Paul is Reader in Strength and Conditioning and the programme leader for the MSc Strength and Conditioning, in addition to leading the Sport and Exercise research theme. Previously, while at the University, his roles have included Head of Sports Science Support for Salford City Reds Rugby League Football Club (2008-2012), co-ordination of the Strength and Conditioning for England Men's Lacrosse (2008-2012), and he currently co-ordinates the sports science support for Sale Sharks RFU as part of their partnership with the University. 

Paul is a founder member and accredited member of the United Kingdom Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA) and a certified member with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He is an editorial board member for Professional Strength and Conditioning (the UKSCA’s journal), Journal of Australian Strength and Conditioning (the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association journal) and a senior editor for The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research (the NSCA journal). Dr Comfort has published over 100 articles in peer reviewed journals, numerous book chapters and edited three text books.


Paul contributes to the strength and conditioning modules on the undergraduate sports science programme and the MSc Strength and Conditioning, where he is also the module leader for the Research Project (Dissertation) module.
