  • Set up, developed, managed the first interagency child care resource centre in Britain 1989- 2002 
  • Senior Lecturer PQ/CPD University of Salford 2003-Present Day


Michael teaches in his specialist areas including child protection, interagency collaboration, the impact of substance misuse on parenting and child wellbeing, motivational interviewing and Developmental Supervision.

He is the module Leader for:

Risk, Assessment and Analysis in Child Care and Developmental Supervision

Research Interests

Michael is a founder member of the Children and Young People Research Centre (CYP@Salford). He is an active researcher in the following areas:

  • The impact of Substance Misuse on children, Young People and their parents
  • Interagency child protection work
  • Child Neglect
  • Staff Supervision/Staff Stress
