David Garbutt

Lecturer in long Term Conditions and End of Life Care

I Joined the University in 2009 as a Lecturer in Long Term Conditions and End of Life Care. I am also year lead for the second year of the undergraduate degree programme in nursing and Technology Enhanced Learning Champion for the adult nursing directorate. I have a 20 year clinical background in cancer, hospice and palliative care nursing as a Lead Cancer Nurse, Macmillan Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialist and End of Life Care Education Facilitator across Manchester and Bolton.

My academic interests focus on the facilitation of learning of healthcare professionals when caring for dying patients and those close to them. My master’s degree explored the role of the humanities in healthcare and my teaching approach reflects the use of the arts and humanities in nursing education. I teach across the under and post graduate nursing curricula as well as input into the pre registration masters programme

My research interests include the impact and effectiveness of healthcare interventions on the experience of dying for individuals and their families.
