Three professional works and three newly commissioned works programmed in one event!
‘GOOD BLOOD’ is commissioned by NSCD Northern Connections and 2FACED Dance Co The BENCH Seed Commission and Arts Council England.
A work in progress production that looks closely at the relationship of two sisters. Entertaining and familiar scenarios are refreshed and brought into focus to shed new light on family ties; the bonds that hold us together and the people that make us.
Keira and Sioda were born and bred in Barnsley, Yorkshire.
The two sisters are inspired and influenced by their working class upbringing, politics, Ireland, dance and music. They are both mothers and have an unforgettable dynamic that is humorous and heartwarming. If there is one thing they both agree on, it’s that you don’t get owt without hard graft.
‘Periodo Blu’ is a dance work exploring the human condition, using the colour blue as a starting point depicting two characters: one is enveloped by the calm and looking to the future, inspired by the boundless colour of sea and sky and the elemental colour of air and water, the other is anchored to the past and lets themselves be contaminated by sadness, inspired by the suffocating colour of deep sea darkness and depression.
‘Periodo Blu’ explores shades of the human condition, through a spectrum which is both life-affirming and ruthless.
Matrafisc Dance was developed by Ina Colizza & Antonello Apicella following meeting at a project developed for the Napoli Teatro Festival where they were both dancers. The company and their collaboration acts as a platform to showcase their artistic & training differences. ‘Hereafter’ is a series of dynamic exchanges accompanied by live music.
The work explores the breakdown of human interaction in our technically advanced society; the use of live music incites an exploration of our disenchantment with reality and our obsession with the virtual.
Coalesce Dance Theatre is a Salford based, all female directed contemporary dance company. We create and explore work that is engaging, educative and accessible to all audiences. Our mission is to connect our audiences with ideas about the wider world through exciting and provoking performance.
Coalesce Dance Theatre was formed in 2016 by Fern Wareham, Rachel Maffei and Anna Papatheodorou. Coalesce Dance Theatre are supported by The University of Salford as an Alumni Artist in Residence.
We are very excited that Keira & Sioda Martin and Matrafisc Dance are also this year’s commissioned choreographers for years 2 & 3. We look forward to not only seeing the final productions, but also witnessing the development of our students whilst working with these esteemed artists.
Year 1 will also perform a short curtain raiser following an intensive choreography course at the beginning of their journey here at the University of Salford.
