GM Jazz Orchestra combined with UoS Big Band on stage at Peel Hall

Event details

The Greater Manchester Music Hub Jazz Orchestra is an exciting and innovative music education partnership combining players from the Music Service Jazz and Big Band programmes across the region. Although only formed in November 2013, the orchestra has already performed at Wigan international Jazz Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival, Band on the Wall, the Bridgewater Hall and the Schools Proms at The Royal Albert Hall. In 2018 the band commissioned new music from some of the biggest names in UK jazz including Mark Nightingale, Iain Ballamy, Alex Bone and Clark Tracey as a part of its 2018 ‘Commissions Project’ funded by Arts Council England. This year the band will celebrate the ‘Blue Note’ era of jazz recordings with new arrangements from their musical director Richard Iles.
