The Construction industry is major contributor to the UK economy, generating almost £90 billion annually (6.7% of GDP) and employing nearly 3 million people.  However, to maintain its position it faces some major challenges and can only be addressed through innovation in design, processes and materials.  The University of Salford has a strong track record of collaboration, delivering practical solutions to real world challenges. 

 

We would like to invite you to see first-hand some of our Building Performance Laboratories – a unique collection of world class testing facilities for construction products and systems:

 

  • The Salford Energy House is a unique facility comprising a whole house within an environmental chamber
  • The UKAS accredited Acoustic Laboratory is one of the UK’s leading facilities of its type, offering comprehensive testing of the acoustic properties of construction products
  • The UKAS accredited Thermal Laboratory is one of a small number of facilities able to precisely characterise the thermal performance of insulation materials
  • The Heavy Structures Laboratory has the capability to test and evaluate large structural components
  • The new Smart Meters Laboratory Smart Home (SMSH) Laboratory facility is equipped with the latest cutting edge technologies allowing for a greater range of smart technologies to be researched and demonstrated.
