Professor Simon Chadwick's lecture will look at why the global sport industry is pivoting eastwards with major events being staged in Asia.

Professor Simon Chadwick's lecture will look at why the global sport industry is pivoting eastwards with major events such as the World Cup and Olympic Games being staged in Asia, and with big money investments and acquisitions being made in sport by Asians, for example by Abu Dhabi at Manchester City. This professorial lecture will examine how this is happening, why it is happening and what it means for us.

Professor Simon Chadwick has almost twenty-five years experience working across international and global sport. He has particular expertise in marketing, commercial strategy, geopolitics and elite professional sport.

Huffington Post has identified him as being among the world's top-30 most important sports marketers; The Independent has ranked him amongst its top-10 most influential business people on Twitter; and The Times described him as Britain's 'guru of sport management'.

Simon has written countless articles, books and research reports for the likes of Sloan Management Review, the Wall Street Journal, UEFA, Mastercard and Financial Times Prentice Hall. In addition, Simon has worked with some of the biggest names in sport, such as FC Barcelona, Adidas, the Association of Tennis Professionals, Nielsen, the European Clubs Association and Ping.

He is currently engaged in work examining the links between sports sponsorship and soft power; the industrial development of sports in the Gulf region; China's quest to become a leading football nation; the phenomenon of transnational sports fandom; the role social media plays in sport; and the way equity in sports brands is built through experiential marketing.

Join us for this inspirational lecture on Wednesday 20 February 2019, Chapman Lecture Theatre 1 at 6.00pm.
