Employability

A library champion in the Library

Industry is at the heart of everything we do.

A degree from the University of Salford is more than just a certificate – we’ll help you graduate with confidence, ready to step into your chosen career.

We form strong partnerships with businesses and organisations from all sectors, working hand-in-hand with them to develop courses that are up-to-date and relevant to today’s challenges.

At first, I expected my course to be theoretically oriented. However, it turned out to be much more practical, and the modules were taught by professionals from the industry.

BA (Hons) Journalism

Our academic staff are professionals in their fields, with many actively engaging with industry to continuously update their knowledge and inform their teaching.

From internships to employment opportunities, guest speakers to practical, hands-on workshops and lectures; we provide our students with the skills necessary to succeed both academically and in working life beyond graduation.

Work experience

We use our partnerships and staff networks to create opportunities for you to gain real, hands-on experience that will help you to develop the professional and personal skills that employers value.

The majority of our courses offer work placements, as well as opportunities to take part in live briefs, where you’ll work in teams to deliver solutions for real clients.

Many courses also offer a year in the industry, giving you the chance to work full-time for an employer. You’ll be paid for your work and you won’t have to pay any tuition fees for the year.

We're with you all the way

You can access our professional, on-campus employability services at any time – even after you graduate. We can help you to create the perfect CV and LinkedIn page, as well as practice interview techniques and offer career advice.

Our online jobs portal gives you access to the latest vacancies, so you can find part-time and casual work to support your studies, as well as internships and graduate placements.

At the University of Salford, no ambition is too big. If you’ve got a business idea of your own, our Enterprise team can help bring it to life through funding awards and business start-up support.

I always dreamed of owning my own business. When I won the competition at Salford, it presented the opportunity to start this new business with great support and mentors.
