Wireless network (WiFi)

The University wireless network is available in almost all University buildings. Digital IT has recently invested heavily in upgrading the wireless network: users can now configure their device just once with the relevant connection and login details, after which it will connect automatically whenever it enters a University of Salford WiFi coverage area in the future.

Campus WiFi is available to anyone—student, employee or Associate—who has an active University IT account (username and password).

In addition, visitors from other educational institutions will be able to use campus WiFi to access the Internet/their home institution’s data network, using the Eduroam service, provided that their institution is a member of the JISC Eduroam community.

WiFi is available to users throughout all Peel Park, Frederick Road and Media City University buildings and floors except:

Halls of Residence - supplied by CLV.

Technology House - not available.

Additionally, full WiFi coverage is now available outside between some buildings, as indicated by the green shaded areas on the map below.  This provides seamless WiFi roaming and improved performance when moving through these outside areas.

WiFi coverage

Students, staff and Associates can establish a WiFi connection by configuring their personal or University-allocated device just once. Thereafter, the device should connect automatically whenever they enter a University WiFi coverage area.

The campus WiFi ‘SSID’ (the network name as it will appear on your device’s list of available WiFi connections) is:


The setup procedure you need to follow depends on the type of device you are connecting—select from the list below.

Guests and visitors can connect to WiFi-Guest SSID, provided by Sky Cloud. All users will need to register with Sky on presentation of the login screen, this needs to be done just once.  Note this wireless network is for guests and visitors ONLY.  Should you connect internally by accident and this causes issues where you may not have access to internal University of Salford applications and resources, please see the 'How to remove WiFi-Guest' guide below.

If you have any issues connecting to WiFi-Guest all calls should be logged with Sky directly and not via Digital IT.
