All about the course
This course offers small class sizes, excellent teaching and competitive tuition fees. You will study topics core to business such as management, accounting, economics, HR and law. You will apply your knowledge and understanding of key theories to practical projects and in the work environment as part of the work based placement module.
On successful completion of the foundation degree, you can apply to join Level 6 of related programmes delivered at the University of Salford's main campus.

You will receive an introduction to the theory and practice of marketing - an essential service to the long-term prosperity of organisations and businesses - and apply these principles to real life situations.
Digital and Business Skills
In this module, you’ll develop the digital and business skills essential for a high level career. You’ll gain experience of specific digital tools as well as practicing professional skills such as self-management, presenting and communication.
Management and Business Operations
In this module you will learn about the management of business operations with a focus on the key processes within an organisation and the impact of the external environment they operate in.
Principles of Human Resource Management
You will learn about the important contribution of Human Resource Management policy and practice to employee and organisational success in the UK and internationally.
Data Analysis for Business
In this module you will be introduced to a variety of data analysis methods, which will be practiced on real world data sets. Regular formative assessment will be set for practice, with timely feedback given to aid learning and personal development.
You will have an opportunity to formulate your own research questions before analysing data to draw reasonable conclusions. The module will predominantly utilise real data and include a mixture of computer-based questions, calculations, interpretation and drawing conclusions.
Principles of Accounting
This module gives you a theoretical and practical introduction to the basics of accounting, including how to prepare financial statements.
Project management is an important and integral part of a business whether this is product or service based. This module will help you develop knowledge and critical understanding of the principles of effective project management in a global business context.
We will look at various aspects of Project Management through a variety of means such as lectures and practical seminars with input from our industry connections and the latest in research. We will examine the subject using theoretical approaches as well as the industry-recognised tools and techniques for planning and controlling projects
Financial and Management Information Systems
This module aims to develop your knowledge of costing and financial management systems. You will learn to select, describe and apply a variety of alternative costing techniques and management accounting techniques.
International Logistics and Distribution Management
In this module you will develop a systematic understanding of logistics aspects and distribution within a global marketplace. You will learn about the various activities that make up logistics and distribution management and explore the methods adopted by companies to generate competitive advantage.
Legal Aspects for Business
This module introduces you to the operation of global legal systems and the areas of law that underpin the practice of effective business management. You will develop a working knowledge of law relating to contracts and their effective negotiation in different business environments.
Work Based Learning
Work Based Learning supports your learning in a professional context. The module will highlight the link between theory and work-base practice to improve your critical evaluation skills and enhance your professional development.
Please note that it may not be possible to deliver the full list of options every year as this will depend on factors such as how many students choose a particular option. Exact modules may also vary in order to keep content current. When accepting your offer of a place to study on this programme, you should be aware that not all optional modules will be running each year. Your tutor will be able to advise you as to the available options on or before the start of the programme. Whilst the University tries to ensure that you are able to undertake your preferred options, it cannot guarantee this.
What will I be doing?
Teaching is in small groups. You will apply your knowledge and understanding to practical projects and the work environment as part of the work based placement module.
Assessment methods include examination (including multiple choice and closed book exams), written coursework, presentations and practical assessments such as observations of work based practice.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants will be required to show a proficiency in English. An IELTS score of 6.0, with no element below 5.5, is proof of this.
Grade C/4 or above at GCSE (or level 2 equivalent) in both Mathematics and English are required.
You must fulfil our GCSE entry requirements as well as one of the requirements listed below.
UCAS tariff points
Salford Alternative Entry Scheme (SAES)
We welcome applications from students who may not meet the stated entry criteria but who can demonstrate their ability to pursue the course successfully. Once we have received your application we will assess it and recommend it for SAES if you are an eligible candidate.
There are two different routes through the Salford Alternative Entry Scheme and applicants will be directed to the one appropriate for their course. Assessment will either be through a review of prior learning or through a formal test.
