All about the course
As a digital marketing degree, online content development is at the core of what we teach. However, you’ll also be given all the vital skills to produce high quality video advertising at every stage of the process.
Having gotten to grips with the creative, business, and practical side of digital marketing and video, your second year will allow you to sharpen these skills and explore possible career paths, with industry guests and briefs to inspire you along the way.
In third year, you’ll pull all your new skills together as you start to plan for a successful career in digital marketing. You’ll explore the current and future landscape of the industry, and your place within it, and take part in an exciting live brief with a real world agency client.

Advertising Video Creation

Media and Marketing Entrepreneur

Technology Innovation
On this 10 credit module you will:
- Analyse the impact of digital technologies within industry
- Appraise technologies in the changing areas of digital practice
- Acquire skills and knowledge in future technological solutions
Leadership and Management for Digital Video Production and Marketing
This 10 credit module offers you a unique in-depth knowledge and understanding of the key practical and theoretical aspects of leadership and management in contemporary organisations. There is a focus on specific individual leaders, leadership styles, and insights into how leaders operate.
Final Dissertation (Major Project)
The culmination of your preceding study, consolidating skills in planning, production and content delivery, by the application of acquired knowledge and real-world marketing techniques. Industry collaboration opportunities as part of the final project include:

Exact modules may also vary in order to keep content current. When accepting your offer of a place to study on this programme, you should be aware that not all optional modules will be running each year. Your tutor will be able to advise you as to the available options on or before the start of the programme. Whilst the University tries to ensure that you are able to undertake your preferred options, it cannot guarantee this.

Delivered in partnership between the School of Arts, Media and Creative Technology and Salford Business School, this degree is focused on ensuring all students are given the full range of skills to go on and achieve great things.
You’ll be taught by industry professionals with decades of experience in digital marketing and guided by industry partners from their own established networks. You’ll also benefit from the fantastic wider facilities and staff at MediaCityUK, where the course is based.
And once you graduate, it won’t end there. You’ll join a thriving alumni network across Greater Manchester and beyond, meaning you’ll be supported professionally and personally whenever you need it.
MEDIACITY FACILITIES
Our MediaCity facilities are industry-standard, so much so that they are used by our industry partners themselves.
When you study with us on this marketing and video production degree, you’ll learn from our experienced tutors and demonstrators, who’ll teach you how to use our facilities. These include:
TV studios - our TV studios have been used by the BBC for a variety of broadcasts, such as the Olympics and Christmas music concerts, and they’re equipped with the same audio-visual systems used by the ITV and Sky too.
The studios have green screen facilities as well as basic props so you can design and build sets for a range of projects.
Green screen facilities - these allow you to create effects such as those you see on weather reports and incorporates a camera system and 3D graphics software.
Audio production - we’ve got all the hardware and software you need to make sure you’ll know just how to create, edit, mix and master audio for film and television. Our main studios feature Avid S6 consoles – a similar set-up to those at our MediaCityUK neighbours, such as Dock10 and ITV.
MakerSpace - bring your designs to life using 3D scanners and printers, power tools and a range of art and craft materials.
Stop-frame studio – we have animation booths equipped with industry standard lighting, grip, software and cameras and learn just what it takes to make your ideas and storyboards a reality.
Computer Suites and Editing Studios – our computer suites are equipped with the latest industry-standard software. You’ll learn from our experienced demonstrators, who’ll teach you the skills needed to turn your concepts into a reality.
Equipment stores - cameras, lighting kits and mics – they’re all essential to media production. But don’t worry, you won’t need to spend thousands of pounds to get the set-up you need – we have a fully equipped equipment store available for you to use and take out industry-standard kit.

EMPLOYMENT
One of the biggest benefits of studying video production and marketing is the employment opportunities it offers. In Salford and Greater Manchester alone, there are over 100 e-commerce companies, so you’ll be joining an industry that’s both vibrant and growing. Graduating with a whole host of technical, creative and business skills, our recent graduates have gone on to establish successful careers in directing, media research digital marketing. Others have secured professional roles in broadcast engineering, sound technology and broadcasting – so the possibilities really are endless.
FURTHER STUDY
Graduates showing strong academic and research skills can pursue a further postgraduate path through our Postgraduate programmes on a full-time or part-time basis subject to a satisfactory proposal.

This course will be conducted with strong industry engagement, with visiting practitioners at its core. Guest speakers will be drawn in from major providers within Manchester to ensure you're learning from content creators working within the industry.
What you need to know
APPLICANT PROFILE
To gain a place on this marketing and video production degree, we’d like to see your film production skills. Whether you have taken and edited videos, we’re most interested in seeing that you can come up with ideas and develop them. We want to see your thinking and delivery process in action.
Creating a portfolio allows you to demonstrate what you can bring to this course and gives us a clear idea of the level you’re currently working at.
You’ll also have to submit a personal statement and meet our entry requirements. A personal statement is a personal summary (up to 4,000 characters) of your academic, professional/life experience and future goals. We’ll want to understand:
- What motivates you and what you’ve learnt on your current academic journey.
- Why you want to work in the creative industries.
- Why the University of Salford and this course is right your future goals.

Applicants will be required to show a proficiency in English. An IELTS score of 6.0, with no element below 5.5, is proof of this.
We also accept a range of other English language qualifications. If you do not have the English language requirements, you could take our Pre-Sessional English course.
Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)
We welcome applications from students who may not have formal/traditional entry criteria but who have relevant experience or the ability to pursue the course successfully.
The Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process could help you to make your work and life experience count. The APL process can be used for entry onto courses or to give you exemptions from parts of your course.
Two forms of APL may be used for entry: the Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) or the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).
HOW MUCH?
Your tuition fees are regulated by the UK government who has proposed changes to tuition fees for UK students studying in England from 1 August 2025. The fee stated reflects this proposed change, but remains subject to parliamentary approval. Your tuition fees may increase in your first and each subsequent year of your programme to the maximum amount permitted by UK law or regulation for that academic year.
