In a nutshell
This module is ideal for all health care professionals to help build upon your undergraduate research skills, research study and ethics application.
You can take this course as a single module for continuing professional development or as part of our MSc Advanced Physiotherapy course.
You will:
- develop your literature searching skills
- understand a range of research techniques
- complete an original research proposal relevant to your practice
All about the course
On this module:
- You will develop your literature searching skills and conduct a systematic review on this course
- You will be able to critically understand the psychometric properties of measurements and be able to judge their quality on this course
- You will be able to critically appraise the purpose, process and products of research
- You will understand a range of research techniques that can be applied to practice to explore research questions
- You will be able to conduct a research project / study after completing this module
- You will be able to submit a primary study for ethics committee approval after this course

Exact modules may also vary in order to keep content current. When accepting your offer of a place to study on this programme, you should be aware that not all optional modules will be running each year. Your tutor will be able to advise you as to the available options on or before the start of the programme. What you need to know
This module is suitable for a wide range of health professionals including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, podiatrists, chiropractors, strength and conditioning coaches, complementary therapists, reflexologists, osteopaths and nurses.

Previous study and experience
You must be:
- A registered professional working in health care.
- A graduate or graduate equivalent.
Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)
We welcome applications from students who may not have formal/traditional entry criteria but who have relevant experience or the ability to pursue the course successfully.
The Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process could help you to make your work and life experience count. The APL process can be used for entry onto courses or to give you exemptions from parts of your course.
Two forms of APL may be used for entry: the Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) or the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).
