In a nutshell
Senior Leaders are a key component of all types of business model where there is a workforce to lead, manage and support. The broad purpose of the senior leader is to provide clear, inclusive strategic leadership and direction relating to your area of responsibility in the organisation.
This programme will equip aspirational and developing senior leaders with the knowledge and skills to become a confident and successful senior leader.
The apprenticeship is for individuals who work or aspire to work in a senior leader/ management role and learn about the principles and practices that underpin core areas of business management.
Important information about this course
The Senior Leader Apprenticeship Standard (Level 7) was approved on 12th January 2021 by the Institute of Apprenticeship and Technical Education (IfATE) for delivery after 29 March 2021 with the funding band reduced from £18,000 to £14,000.
The IfATE website makes reference to removal of any degree qualification as a mandated part of the apprenticeship. The new standard states, however, that a provider would still be free to use a University Level 7 qualification to deliver the apprenticeship, so long as it aligns to the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs).

All about the course
There are two distinct components to the apprenticeship – the academic programme and the work-based assessment. The University – as lead provider – is responsible for delivering the programme. The employer is responsible for delivering the work-based assessment components. The university and employer work closely with each other to:
(1) Assure that knowledge gained on the apprenticeship is successfully applied in the workplace.
(2) To ensure that the standards and practices required to meet the professional competencies contained in the apprenticeship standard are adequately evidenced.
Apprentices will study a core curriculum that focuses on developing their leadership skills, project management skills and transferable skills.

Please note that it may not be possible to deliver the full list of options every year as this will depend on factors such as how many students choose a particular option. Exact modules may also vary in order to keep content current. When accepting your offer of a place to study on this programme, you should be aware that not all optional modules will be running each year. Your tutor will be able to advise you as to the available options on or before the start of the programme. Whilst the University tries to ensure that you are able to undertake your preferred options, it cannot guarantee this.

How much?
The total cost of this Master's level apprenticeship is £14,000. The cost of the apprenticeship will be covered by your employer and/or the government. You will need to cover the cost of any study materials plus travel to and from campus if required.
Additional costs
The apprenticeship levy was introduced in April 2017 and requires all employers operating in the UK, with a pay bill of over £3 million each year to invest in apprenticeships.
The funding policy supports the changes to the way apprenticeships in England are paid for, underpinned by the apprenticeship levy of 0.5% of the annual pay bill for companies paying over £3 million per year.
There is also a co-investment model for companies who will not be paying into the levy. The government will cover 95% of the cost of the apprenticeship and the employer will only have to contribute the remaining 5%. Once payments have been declared to HMRC, employers will now have access to a digital apprenticeship account from which they will be able to access funding to pay for apprenticeship training.
The maximum amount of money allocated to each standard falls into one of 15 funding bands, ranging from £1,500 to £27,000. The Senior Leader standard has been allocated the following funding band:
Funding band: 12
Funding band maximum: £18,000
