Dr Robert Hegarty
Senior Lecturer Cyber Security
I am an experienced cyber security researcher, with an established track record of working with law enforcement agencies from around the region (Liverpool Police High Tech Unit, Cheshire Constabulary eForensics, Greater Manchester Police, TITAN Regional Organised Crime Unit) and overseas (Abu Dhabi & Kuwait) in a variety of capacities providing; consulting, research and development, training etc.
As part of my PhD I developed a novel distributed file signature detection platform to make possible the processing of cloud scale data in digital forensic investigations. Upon completion of my PhD, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Liverpool John Moores University, collaboration with Cheshire Constabulary on the European ECentre project to research and develop software to capture, analyse, and visualise relationships in online social networks. After my work as postdoctoral researcher, I completed a brief stint at the University of Salford as a visiting lecturer, delivering the Information Security and Practice module as part of the MSc programme. This was followed by 6 years at Manchester Metropolitan University, working as a senior lecture and course leader delivering undergraduate, postgraduate, and degree level apprenticeship programmes in cyber security. My current research interests are file signature detection, digital forensics, cyber security and privacy; https://tinyurl.com/rhgooglescholar
