What is Clearing?

So, what is Clearing? And how does university Clearing work? Clearing is how universities fill any remaining places they have on their courses. From July 2022 you can apply for a course via the UCAS Clearing process if you’re not already holding an offer from a university and if the course still has places. The UCAS Clearing process gives you more time to find a course you want to study so you can start uni in September 2022. To find out more about whether you’re eligible for university Clearing, read below.

Am I eligible for university Clearing?

You can apply for UCAS Clearing courses if:

  • You’re applying after 30 June 2022
  • You didn’t receive any offers (or none you wanted to accept)
  • You didn’t meet the conditions of your offers
  • You’ve changed your mind about where and what you want to study

If you're eligible to apply through Clearing, we recommend starting your Clearing search early. To find out more about the programmes of study we offer here at Salford, search our courses today. You can also read our guide to Clearing for useful advice on the UCAS Clearing process.

Zahra's story

Clearing 2021 student

Zahra, who studied Biomedical Science, told us about her placement and how it gave her crucial experience for her career:

“I was on placement at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital, where I was working as a Biomedical Science Trainee. I was responsible for processing patient samples, carrying out different diagnostic techniques and doing quality control checks. I’m very excited for my career, there are so many options open to me. I could become a clinical scientist, work in research, become a physician associate, or specialise in haematology or immunology as a biomedical scientist.”
