The University of Salford has funding to support students with vision, drive, commitment and passion to make their business idea a reality. This money was kindly donated by our partners - Santander and will go to funding and supporting students of the University who have a passion in an idea to develop in to a business. These awards are small grants of up to £1000, and will provide you with a first step to test your idea- this funding does not need to be repaid.
The Start Up Award is to help fund and support students of the University who have a business idea. This funding can go towards finding out if your idea is viable, learning more about what is needed and trying the project on a small scale before further development.
The Make THE Difference Award is to help fund and support students of the University who have a passion and an idea to make a difference in their community. This funding is for people with vision, drive and commitment to change the world for the better.
The application process:
- Submit an online application form detailing your idea and the need for funding by Friday 10th March 2017
- Criteria will be checked and applications will be assessed through an initial selection process (any applications that do not get through at this stage will receive feedback and will be invited to reapply in the next round of funding).
- Applicants will be invited to pitch at a judging panel on Wednesday 22nd March 2017.
- All pitches will receive feedback and will either be awarded all funding, part funding or no funding.
- Please note all applications will be considered after the closing date.
If you impress the judges with your pitch, you will be selected to represent University of Salford to pitch at three prestigious nationwide competitions, and compete against students from other Universities for cash prizes, mentoring and opportunities to receive investment into your business Idea. This will be a chance to really make your idea come to life!
The Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Awards were launched in 2011. Since then, they have grown to be the UKs largest student and graduate business pitching competition. Santander reward entrepreneurs by offering cash prizes, mentoring and start-up support and have so far given away more than £260,000 to start-ups and small businesses. The winners will not only receive a cash prize, but will have the opportunity to make use of the bank's services to help them start up their proposed business. The prize money awarded varies between £1,000 and £25,000. This year there is a prize pool worth over £100,000 which will include equity-free seed funding, mentoring, access to talent and more.
Building on the success of our previous innovation competitions, we are excited to run a new intitiative called Innovating Future Business. The competition encourages innovative, forward-thinking business ideas and is open to current students and staff of the University of Salford, as well as students and staff from partner higher education providers also including the Alliance University group.
This competition will include multiple investors and Universities in a true Dragons Den Style. The prize pool is £5000, but if you impress the judges, you will be in with a chance for further investment at the discretion of the participating company. These partner organisations will also take part in the mentoring process, through guest lectures and workshops, and the selection process and the ultimate competition event, held during the finale. This is a great opportunity to get feedback from industry leaders and make your business idea into reality.
