Programme Leader, BA(Hons) Interior Design
I have over 30 years experience working as a commercial interior designer within architectural practices.
My career began in the public sector within the multi-disciplinary County Architects Department in Durham. Here I worked with the design team, on buildings across all key stages for the Education Department, as well as Social Services, the Library and Museum Service, the County Magistrates and the Police and Fire Authorities.
I relocated to Manchester in 1997, where I held the position of Sector Head for Interior Design, leading a team of designers in private practice at The Fairhursts Design Group. I worked in a diverse range of sectors, including workplace, pharmaceutical, education, research, media, hotel, sport and leisure.
Key clients have included; Accor Hotels, Astra Zeneca, British American Tobacco, Hilton Hotels, IBM, Intercontinental Hotel Group, Media City UK, Manchester United FC, Manchester Metropolitan University, PZ Cussons, Robinson’s Brewery, University of Manchester and the University of Salford.
I established Bramley Design Limited in 2015 to act as an independent Interior Design Consultant working with Koncept Interior Design whilst simultaneously teaching on the BA (Hons) Interior Design programme at Stockport College.
In my role as Programme Leader and Lecturer at Salford, I teach across all levels. I believe it is important that students are taught both creative and critical thinking alongside the development of practical and technical skills. The promotion of good professional practice helps foster a realistic outlook into the current working world.
I incorporate a kinaesthetic approach into my teaching, where sessions promote choice, decision making and ownership.
