Dr Siân Etherington

Lecturer in TESOL and Applied Linguistics

Biography

After completing a BA English Literature and Language at the University of Oxford, I began my EFL teaching career in Greece, moving onto teach Business English and ESP in Germany. I completed my MA TEFL at the University of Manchester and followed this with an ESRC funded PhD in TESOL, also at Manchester University. I joined the University of Salford in 2002.

Teaching

I teach the TESOL modules on the BA English Language programmes and supervise PhD students in the area of TESOL. I am also a tutor on the university’s academic development programme, the PG Certificate in Academic Practice.

Research Interests

I am interested in the role of individual differences in SLA, particularly motivation, beliefs and perceptions, emotion and affective issues.

Qualifications and Memberships

PG Certificate in Academic Practice, Fellow of HEA; member of SEDA, member of IATEFL, member of BAAL.
