Lecturer in Journalism
I was the editor of Plymouth's award-winning daily newspaper and website, The Herald. I started my journalism career as a reporter with The Chronicle newspaper in Newcastle-upon-Tyne before becoming the news editor and then deputy editor of the Manchester Evening News. I have taken a leading role in the creation of effective multimedia newsrooms both in the UK and with news organisations overseas through my work with The Guardian Foundation and the BBC World Service Trust. I now teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in subjects related to print and online journalism as well as media law. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
