Dr Gary Morrisroe
I joined the University of Salford in September 2015. Prior to this I was employed as a lecturer on the Media degree at Liverpool Hope University for eleven years, focussing on Radio Production, News and Media/Cultural Theory. I also led the Postgraduate Diploma in Radio & Online Journalism programme which I designed in collaboration with BBC Radio Merseyside – the programme was accredited by the Broadcast Journalism Training Council in January 2012. Before this I worked as a format developer at the BBC (generating factual and entertainment strands for BBC 1, 2 and 3) and was the manager of a nationwide team of ‘digital trainers’ for BBC New Media Training. Throughout my career I have worked as a freelance journalist, writer and producer for radio stations across the northwest and in 2016 graduated from Swansea University with a PhD in English.
Teaching on the BA TV and Radio programme I am the module leader for Level 4 Radio Production, Level 5 Radio Studio and Level 6 Radio Studio & Beyond.
My research interests include: radio (and podcast) comedy, representations of human-animal relations on radio/podcasts (and in the media more generally), socio-economic plurality within the UK radio industry
