FAQs

How do I access the sessions?

We'll be posting links to join our sessions on this page wherever you see 'Join sessions'. These may not be live until 9am on the day of the event, so don't worry if you are unable to access any sessions prior to the event starting.

For most of this week's sessions, we will be using a system called Blackboard Collaborate; however, the accommodation presentations will be via Microsoft Teams.

Blackboard Collaborate

Using Google Chrome, click on the link for the session you want to access and it will open in a new tab while leaving this event hub page open for you.

When you join your first session, you’ll be asked to add your name and that’s all you need to do. You may also see a microphone and camera test pop up the first time you open a session; when prompted, please allow Collaborate to access these or you may not be able to hear the presentation. Don't worry, no one will be able to see or hear you as we have disabled microphones and cameras.

If you experience audio problems when you enter any of the sessions, you can also dial into the session using your mobile phone. To do this, please click on the menu button in the top left-hand corner and select 'use your phone for audio'. This will provide you with a unique phone number and pin that will allow you to dial into the session.

Microsoft Teams

Clicking the link will open the event either in your web browser or, if you have Teams installed on your mobile/tablet/computer, you may be asked whether you would like to open it in Teams or a web browser. Either option is fine.

Once you join the event, no one will see or hear you - only the presenter can be seen or heard.

If you join before the event has started, you will see a message saying 'The live event has not yet started'. Once the event starts, this will be replaced with the presentation - you don't need to do anything else to start it.

How do I ask questions during a talk?

Blackboard Collaborate

During the sessions there is a chat function on the right-hand side of the screen, and you can type questions there - you won’t be able to ask questions verbally as all microphones are disabled. To access the chat function, click on the pink two arrows symbol in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen and this will open a chat box. Please be aware that any questions you type here can be seen by other participants.

Microsoft Teams - Accommodation presentations only

There is a Q&A running throughout the presentation, which can be found in the top-right corner of your screen. Any questions asked here may not be visible straight away, so there is no need to resubmit the same question if you don't see it in the main Q&A feed. Once it does appear there, please be aware that it can be seen by other participants. You also are able to 'like' questions from other participants, which we'd encourage you to do for any that interest you as it helps us to prioritise the most common queries first.

How long does the event last?

The activities will run from 9.30am until 4pm but you are welcome to dip in and out as you wish.

Do I need to attend the full afternoon?

No, you do not need to attend all of the sessions taking place, you can pick and choose based on what you would like to find out. If you are interested in attending all of the sessions but are unable to make each one, why not take a look at when it is next taking place as many of our sessions will be repeated again over the upcoming months. Sessions will cover some of the same content each week and you will have the chance to ask plenty of questions, but we will also provide new updates each week so you are welcome to come along to as many as you want.
