John was appointed Director of Marketing & Student Recruitment in May 2015, and then Executive Director of Marketing & External Relations in June 2016. He is a higher education marketing specialist with over 18 years of responsibility at a senior level in both consumer and corporate marketing, marketing strategy, student recruitment, internationalisation, institutional development and communications roles. He has worked in five universities during his career and has responsibility for the University’s brand, branding and marketing strategy, as well as its global student recruitment activities.
John is a corporate strategist and uses his statistical background to provide insight and evidence based analysis and solutions to help address the complexities of market positioning and optimising the University’s enrolment goals. He also has both a creative and imaginative flare that provides cut-through communications in an increasingly competitive market providing a rare combination of analysis and ‘out of the box’ thinking in a marketing and communications role.
His experience includes international recruitment and partnership development and he has a research and professional interest in the development of Strategic Enrolment Management as a profession within the US and UK higher education sector.
