Welcome to your Applicant Visit Day

Saturday 7 May 2022
09:00 - 17:00

We’re so excited to welcome you to your Applicant Visit Day and can't wait to show you our campuses – Peel Park, Frederick Road and MediaCity.

There's a lot to see and do during the Applicant Visit Day, so make sure you use the resources on this page to plan your visit in advance.

We've put some handy steps below for you to help you plan your visit, and so you can see how the day will run.

  • Step 1 - When and where do you need to be?
    • Check what time your course session will run - depending on your course this could be in the morning or the afternoon.
  • Step 2 - Plan your general sessions.
    • What else do you want to see, do or learn while you're here? There are plenty of general sessions taking place today to help you with your decision making. Make sure you book onto a campus tour when you arrive on campus.
  • Step 3 - Plan your journey
    • We're easy to get to no matter how you're travelling but be sure to plan ahead so you don't miss any of your key sessions. To make it easier for you to come and visit us, we're offering travel awards of up to £40 to offset some of the cost of travelling to your Applicant Visit Day. If you live in Greater Manchester, we'll contribute £15 to the cost of your visit; for anyone coming from further afield, we'll contribute £40. Find out more in the FAQs below.

Scroll down to follow these three steps and make the most of your day!

Step 2

Plan your General Sessions

Once you know what time your course session is taking place you can start to plan your day to include the general sessions that are taking place on campus. There will be opportunities for you to view our accommodation, join a campus tour, head to a finance talk and chat with our student support team askUS. You can find details of all these sessions in our general sessions guide.

Step 3:

Plan your journey

We would always encourage you to make use of public transport wherever possible. The University is just 2km from Manchester city centre on the A6, is well-served by Salford Crescent train station and has regular bus services both into and out of Manchester.

Train

Salford Crescent train station is located in the middle of our campus, between our Peel Park and Frederick Road sites, making us very easy to get to by rail. Trains from both Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria run through the station regularly, as well as from Manchester Airport, Blackpool, Southport, Wigan, Blackburn, Preston and Huddersfield. The station is fully accessible for wheelchairs, pushchairs and bicycles.

Bus

The Crescent/A6 runs alongside our campus and is a major bus route into and out of Manchester city centre. There are several stops for our campus, so see Transport for Greater Manchester’s Route Explorer to find the best journey for you.

Car

If you do choose to drive, we have multiple pay-by-app car parks on campus, any of which are free to use for your visit. Select your course above and you’ll find your suggested car park.

Please note that the MediaCity and Museum & Art Gallery car parks are not owned by the university, so will not be free for the event

Walking

If you feel like stretching your legs and want to get a feel for the area, we’re a 25-minute walk from Manchester city centre. From the Arndale Centre, head across the River Irwell to Chapel Street and take a left…that will bring you past Salford Central train station (on your left), Salford Cathedral (a bit further up on your right) and, about half a mile later, right to our doorstep.

By air

Manchester International Airport is 10 miles from the University. There are regular, direct train services to and from Salford Crescent station and Manchester Piccadilly. Buses also link the airport and Manchester city centre. To find the best journey for you, see Transport for Greater Manchester’s Route Explorer.

MediaCity

If you’re joining us at our MediaCity campus and are travelling by car, there are several pay-to-park options available there. The nearest is The Garage, but there are also several surface-level car parks nearby. For sat nav directions please use M50 2HE as the postcode.

There is also a tram stop just outside our building and several bus stops nearby. For more info on how to find us at MediaCity, have a look at our MediaCity travel page.

Once you’ve arrived at MediaCity, we’re located in Orange Tower, the same building as ITV and opposite The Dockyard.

Health and Safety on Campus

On campus

In line with the latest government guidance, masks are not mandatory on campus; however, you are welcome to wear one if you feel more comfortable doing so. You'll also find sanitisation points around our campuses, which you are very welcome to use.

Accept your offer on UCAS

You can accept a maximum of two choices – one firm and one insurance. You can only have an insurance choice if your firm choice is a conditional offer. If you accept an unconditional offer as your firm choice then the place is guaranteed, so you cannot have an insurance choice. Make sure you know when the deadline is to accept your offer.

Accommodation

If you are planning to move away from home, you will need to start looking for suitable accommodation.  The University accommodation is open for bookings now. If you initially indicated on your UCAS application that you wanted to live at home and have changed your mind, then this isn't a problem at all. You can find further information on our accommodation here. There will be an opportunity to book your place, with Campus Living Villages, at the event.

Student Finance

Applications for student finance for courses starting September 2022 to 2023 are open now. You can find further information here.

Make sure you submit your application in plenty of time, so your funding is in place when you start your course.

Travel Award

We want you to be able to make an informed decision when you’re choosing where to study and know that the best way to do that is to get out and visit. The financial cost of doing that can add up quickly, though, so to help offset the cost of your visit to us, we’d like to reimburse you for some of your travel expenses.

If you live in Greater Manchester, we'll contribute £15 to the cost of your visit; for anyone coming from further afield, we'll contribute £40.

Full guidance will be provided on the day, but you don't need to bring anything with you or have anything validated, just make sure you check-in at one of our check-in points and we'll email you with the details after the event.

Health and Safety

In line with the latest government guidance, masks are not mandatory on campus; however, you are welcome to wear one if you feel more comfortable doing so. You'll also find sanitisation points around our campuses, which you are very welcome to use.

If you develop Covid-19 symptoms

If you have booked a place but develop Covid-19 symptoms before you are due to visit, please stay at home and do not visit our campus. Symptoms of Covid-19 can be found here.
