Keith Barnes
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Strategic Partnerships and Development
Keith Barnes is the University of Salford's Pro-Vice-Chancellor - Strategic Partnerships and Development. He joined in September 2009.
A former Regional Director of Government Office North West (GONW), Keith reports to the Vice-Chancellor as part of a role which involves developing and maintaining the University’s external partnerships.
He leads on the University’s engagement with public, private and community sectors and oversees the University’s contribution to a number of educational partners. Partners include Salford City Council, Manchester Chamber of Commerce, Pro Manchester and Manchester Solutions.
As Regional Director of GONW, Keith acted as an advocate for the region in Whitehall. At the same time he worked with a wide range of partners to successfully implement a range of economic, environmental and social policies on the ground.
Prior to his role with GONW, Keith was Chief Executive of Thurrock Council, Essex, where he oversaw an ambitious regeneration programme. He was also Chairman of Manchester Airport at a time when the organisation was expanding rapidly.
Immediately prior to his role at Salford his most recent role was as a consultant, providing advice and executive coaching to clients in local government, health and voluntary sectors.
He also chairs the Groundwork Trust (MSTT) and is a board member on Harvest Housing.
