The 2012 winners of the Harold Riley Award were Leadership in Community Engagement were nominated by Salford City Council’s Equalities and Cohesion Unit for work with Muslim communities in Salford and by Bolton at Home for work with the tenants and particularly those who are long-term unemployed. Salford’s Housing and Urban Studies Unit is a dedicated research and consultancy team that have expertise and knowledge in a wide range of issues revolving around the broad bases of social exclusion, community cohesion and community engagement. Within these areas they also have a particular specialist understanding around work with members of ‘hard-to-reach’ communities including asylum seekers and refugees, members of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities and Gypsies and Travellers. Andrew Steele, Centre Director, left in the picture, received the award from Harold Riley.
