Course Summary

You can take this course as a single module for continuing professional development.

This module explores:

  • The nurse's role, as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, in providing holistic and individualised care for clients and their carer
  • Physical monitoring, diagnosis and treatment interventions in maintaining homeostasis
  • The physiological processes and responses affecting homeostasis in the acutely ill neuroscience patient
  • Principles of strategies and interventions used in the management of cognitive, behavioural and emotional problems in
  • Central nervous system
  • Peripheral nervous system
  • Communication and swallowing disorders

Please note that it may not be possible to deliver the full list of options every year as this will depend on factors such as how many students choose a particular option. Exact modules may also vary in order to keep content current. When accepting your offer of a place to study on this programme, you should be aware that not all optional modules will be running each year. Your tutor will be able to advise you as to the available options on or before the start of the programme. Whilst the University tries to ensure that you are able to undertake your preferred options, it cannot guarantee this.

Entry Requirements

Accreditation for Prior Experiential Learning (APEL)

We welcome applications from students who may not have formal/traditional entry criteria but who have relevant experience or the ability to pursue the course successfully.

The Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process could help you to make your work and life experience count. The APL process can be used for entry onto courses or to give you exemptions from parts of your course.

Two forms of APL may be used for entry: the Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) or the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).

English Language Requirements

If your first language is not English you will need to provide evidence of proficiency - IELTS 6.5 band score or above are proof of this.

Applicant profile

We positively welcome applications from students who may not meet the stated entry criteria but who can demonstrate their ability to successfully pursue a programme of study in higher education. Students who do not have formal entry qualifications are required to sit a written assessment which is designed for this purpose. This module includes lectures and seminars, reflection and learning sets, personal development plans, use of the University Virtual Learning Environment (Blackboard) and individual tutorials.The module is taught part-time over one semester.
