Course Summary

This course is aimed at those who wish to pursue careers as make-up artists.

You will build skills in make-up artistry as well as core professional competencies central to the pursuit of freelance opportunities such as self-promotion.  You will develop your make-up practice through the study of art and design, fashion trends and forecasting and the cosmetics industry, in a purpose built facility at FutureSkills at MediaCityUK which has recently become an approved MAC Centre.

Salford Alternative Entry Scheme (SAES)

We welcome applications from students who may not meet the stated entry criteria but who can demonstrate their ability to pursue the course successfully. Once we have received your application we will assess it and recommend it for SAES if you are an eligible candidate.

There are two different routes through the Salford Alternative Entry Scheme and applicants will be directed to the one appropriate for their course. Assessment will either be through a review of prior learning or through a formal test.

English Language Requirements

Applicants will be required to show a proficiency in English. An IELTS score of 6.0 (no element below 5.5) is proof of this.

Applicant profile

Applicants will need 32-64 UCAS points and a Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths (GCSE Grade C or 4).  

We accept applicants who have achieved a Pass in the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Fashion, Theatre and Media Hair and Make-up Studies (QFC), or a Pass in City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects, Hair and Media Make-up. Diploma/Vocational qualifications - Media Make-up, Hair and Beauty, Art and Design based subjects, Creative Media and Theatre/Performance. A Levels- Art and Design based subjects including Fashion, Photography and Media based subjects.

Appropriately experienced applicants will be considered in line with the University’s APL procedure.

All applicants will be required to show a portfolio of relevant work and attend an interview.
