Course Summary

The Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management is a part-time undergraduate degree qualification designed for HR professionals and those wanting to develop a career in HRM.

This course will provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to practice human resource management effectively. You will develop analytical, intellectual and evaluative skills which will improve your understanding of HRM theory and how to put new concepts into practice.

On successful completion of the Graduate Certificate HRM you will become a member of CIPD and receive a CIPD Intermediate Level Diploma and also gain access to the MSc Human Resource Management (part-time), which offers Advanced Level Membership of CIPD.

On successful completion of the Graduate Certificate HRM, you will be able to join the MSc in Human Resource Management (part time), giving you the necessary academic requirements for Full Membership of the CIPD.

SEMESTER 1

This module will allow you to consider a number of important HRM issues, including how behaviour may be influenced in the workplace.
You will develop an excellent understanding of key HR policy areas which are common to all organisations. Areas under review will include human resource planning, recruitment, selection, and performance appraisal. You will also consider the increasingly important issues of flexibility at work, stress, and staff retention.

SEMESTER 2

You will achieve a sound understanding of how learning and development can contribute to organisational effectiveness.
This module will give you a good understanding of the principles of how employment law is formed and governed.

Suitable For

Applicants must have at least one of the following:

  • HHND/HNC, or academic and professional qualifications of an equivalent level
  • CIPD Foundation Level certificates, such as: Personnel Practice, Training Practice or Employment Law
  • Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) in HRM

Appropriately experienced applicants will be considered in line with University guidelines.

This course offers great scope for you to learn how human resources management plays a vital role in business. You will gain a highly regarded qualification, either as an existing practitioner or as a manager wanting to specialise in HRM.

Fees

Tuition fees for Home/EU students beginning their course in September 2018 will be announced as soon as they are confirmed by the UK Government. Tuition fees for 2017 were £9,250 per annum for Home/EU students; we expect this figure to rise slightly for 2018.

Additional costs

Students may wish to register for CIPD associate membership at an additional cost of £160. Costs are approximated based on the  current academic year.

Teaching

Teaching is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars and tutorials using a wide range of learning activities. The course runs one evening per week for two semesters.

Assessment

This programme is assessed through assignments, group work and presentations. There are no examinations.
