Course Summary

You will develop a wide range of technical and professional skills for performance, production, composition and music business management. Students will be supported to develop realistic and achievable career plans to help them reach their goals.

Based at MediaCityUK, you will study at  FutureSkills Centre; a creative hub for music and media students containing professional recording, editing and rehearsal facilities. Also based within the centre is the Roland Music Academy, which will provide you with access to some of the leading products and artists within the Music Industry.

On successful completion of the foundation degree, you can apply for further study at the University of Salford:

BA (Hons) Music: Creative Music Technology*

BA (Hons) Music: Popular Music and Recording*

or other universities.

*Entry maybe to level 5 depending on performance at interview.

Salford Alternative Entry Scheme (SAES)

We welcome applications from students who may not meet the stated entry criteria but who can demonstrate their ability to pursue the course successfully. Once we have received your application we will assess it and recommend it for SAES if you are an eligible candidate.

There are two different routes through the Salford Alternative Entry Scheme and applicants will be directed to the one appropriate for their course. Assessment will either be through a review of prior learning or through a formal test.

English Language Requirements

International applicants will be required to show a proficiency in English. An IELTS score of 6.0 (no element below 5.5) is proof of this.

Applicant profile

Applicants will need 80 UCAS points and a Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths (GCSE Grade C or 4).

All applicants are required to audition and interview for the programme. All applicants should be able to sight-read, have a good understanding of chords, scales, rhythms and harmony, and have the ability to transcribe ensemble performances. Applicants may be tested in these areas and will be auditioned on the instrument they wish to study for practice based pathways. All applicants are expected to have some knowledge of acoustics and the principles that govern the creative use of music technology.

Appropriately experienced applicants will be considered in line with the University’s Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) procedure.
