Choosing Salford

What will help my son or daughter choose the right course at Salford?

Speaking to a careers adviser at school/college

This will enable your son or daughter to find out more about careers and courses available. Schools/colleges will have a programme of activities to support progression to university which will include researching courses, the application process, talks from university staff and activities on campus such as our student shadowing initiative, Route A6.

Attending an UCAS Fair

Prospective students in Year 12 usually have the opportunity to visit one of the regional higher education conventions organised by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, UCAS. At these events, universities and colleges from across the UK are present and prospective students have the opportunity to speak to our representatives, pick up a prospectus and attend seminars about subjects at university.

Find out details of UCAS Fairs that we will be attending.

Visit us at our undergraduate open day

We run undergraduate open days for prospective students throughout the year. Our university wide open days give you the opportunity to meet academic staff from across the University, current students, visit subject facilities, see student accommodation and find out about finance and student support. It’s common for parents to accompany sons and daughters to open days and we have dedicated talks on supporting your son or daughter through university included in our open day programme.

How does my son or daughter apply for a course at Salford?

Applications for our full-time undergraduate courses are dealt with by UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service). Students fill in one application form, applying to up to five courses, from September the year before they start university. The form is sent, by UCAS, to us and any other universities your son or daughter wants to apply to.

Once we’ve received their application we will look at their application and make a decision on whether to offer them a place. Once they’ve heard back from all their choices they need to decide on their first choice (firm) and back up choice (insurance) by the beginning of May. After they’ve received their results in August they can confirm their place with us and look forward to starting in September. Further information on the UCAS application process can be found on the UCAS website.

If your son or daughter is interested in part-time courses they will need to apply direct to us.
