Joining checklist
If you have received an unconditional offer or you have met the requirements of your conditional offer follow our 11-step checklist to joining the University. If you are an international student please visit our International website for your joining checklist.
STEP 1: Visit us at your applicant event
We hold specific events for applicants and offer holders. These events will give you the opportunity to attend taster sessions and workshops to give you a flavour of what it’s really like to study here.
Once you have applied and/or received your offer we will send you further information about our applicant events. You can also find information about these on our applicant events pages .
STEP 2: Select your firm and insurance choice
Once you have received decisions from the universities or colleges you've applied to, and provided you have at least one offer, UCAS will contact you, asking you to look at 'Replying to Offers' on UCAS Track. This will list the decisions and the date you must respond to them. You must respond by the deadline you are given, otherwise your offers may be withdrawn. Your first choice of university should be a firm acceptance and your insurance acceptance is usually the offer you will take up if you don't achieve the grades for your first choice.
When you have firmly accepted your offer from the University of Salford, you can apply for student finance and accommodation.
STEP 3: Apply for student finance
You can apply for student finance from 14 February 2013. Try to apply as early as you can – it can take a long time for Student Finance England to process all the applications and you don't want to start university with no money. Go to the Student Finance pages of www.direct.gov.uk for full details and how to apply.
If you have applied for a healthcare or social work course you may receive support from the NHS. Healthcare students can receive a bursary for living costs and will have their fees paid by the NHS. Social work students receive a bursary for living costs and can apply for a student finance tuition fee loan. For more information on how to apply please visit the NHS student grant website.
STEP 4: Apply for accommodation
You can apply for student accommodation from May 2013. We will contact you to let you know we have started taking applications. You must apply online by 1 September 2013. You will then receive a letter from Accommodation Services with details of the accommodation that has been allocated to you and how to collect your keys when you arrive. Visit the accommodation website.
STEP 5: Receive your Get Ready guide
Your printed guide will be sent by post from the end of July through to September. If you have not received your copy by 12 September 2013 please visit the My Student Info website.
STEP 6: Receive your confirmation offer
Confirmation letters will be sent out from mid August onwards. If you have not received a confirmation letter from us 10 days after your place has been confirmed on UCAS Track, please contact our admissions team.
STEP 7: Register online
Online registration opens in August 2013. You need to register in order to enrol on your course and become an official student of the University of Salford. Full details of how to register are included in your Get Ready guide and will be available on the Get Ready website.
STEP 8: Check-in
All new students have to attend a short check-in session, during which we check your documents and formally record your arrival at the University. After check-in the Student Loan Company will release payment of your loan. Full details of where and how to check-in will be included in your Get Ready guide and will be available soon on the Get Ready website.
STEP 9: Student welcome
Our Student Welcome will help you find out all about the services and facilities on campus – and meet new friends. You'll find information, activities and freebies from the University and Students' Union. Student Welcome takes place in September 2013.
STEP 10: School inductions
Before classes begin, you'll have a series of events and presentations where you'll meet your tutors and other students on your course. You'll also get information about the library, IT services and much more. Most of these events will take place during the week beginning 16 September. Further details will be available prior to you joining at www.getready.salford.ac.uk/inductions.
STEP 11: Teaching begins
Your first classes will start during the week of 23 September 2013. Good luck with your studies!
