BA (Hons) Photography and Photography with Industry Placement/Foundation Year - W460/W461/W643

Thank you for applying for a place on this course and congratulations on securing an interview. Please read the following instructions carefully and make sure that you allow plenty of time to prepare for your interview.

What will happen at the interview?

You will be asked to present a portfolio of your work and you will get the opportunity to talk to a member of staff about the pieces you have selected. You will also have the chance to talk about your interests and ambitions. Typical questions might include:

  • Why do you want to study this subject?
  • Tell me about your favourite piece of work in your portfolio?
  • Which photographers are you interested in and why?

Preparing your portfolio

Your portfolio is likely to be made up of the work you have undertaken on your current or most recent course. This can be a mix of photographic and other creative work. Please also bring at least one sketchbook containing project development and research.

Your portfolio should demonstrate that you:

  • Are enthusiastic about your subject
  • Have strong visual communication skills
  • Can solve problems and develop ideas
  • Have an awareness of the work of contemporary photographers, artists or designers

It should show a good level of commitment to your studies and evidence of your skills. The work you present should be organised, clean and well-presented.

If you have applied for more than one course, please make this clear at the interview as one interview usually covers all courses within the School of Arts & Media.
