You’ll never be short of things to do or places to go while you’re here. If you fancy somewhere quiet try Café Yours – you can relax, surf, read and chat in a comfortable environment. Or there’s Bar Yours for a pint, some pool or watching sport on the plasma-screen TVs.

Out and about in Salford and Manchester

Manchester has an internationally renowned music scene and some of the best bars and clubs in the country. There’s venues to suit all tastes, styles and trends – and its all happening 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Mingle with celebrities at Deansgate Locks, see live gigs in the Northern Quarter, chill out at Castlefield, go cheap and cheerful on Oxford Road and party hard in Manchester’s gay village.

With venues like the Bridgewater Hall, home to the Halle Orchestra, and the MEN Arena, Europe’s biggest indoor concert venue, Manchester attracts some of the biggest names in the business. The Lowry, Opera House and the Palace Theatre are busy all year round and there is a big range of cinemas including the Cornerhouse, an independent cinema and comedy clubs to keep you entertained any night of the week.

The biannual Manchester International Festival presents new works from across the spectrum in performing arts, music, visual arts and popular culture.

From fine art to contemporary exhibits one of the most popular cultural destinations is the Manchester Art Gallery , on campus there is Salford Art gallery, and The Lowry houses L.S.Lowry's works plus a lively programme of special exhibitions.

Manchester also has one of the largest Chinese communities in the UK, so Chinese New Year is a great spectacle with a colourful parade of traditional dragon dances.

For fashionistas you can find stores from high street chains to Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and the eclectic Afflecks emporium in the Northern Quarter. Hop on a bus from the University and spend some time in the famous Trafford Centre

If you're a sports fan there are a some great sporting venues to watch some exciting games - Manchester United Football Club, Manchester City Football Club, Lancashire County Cricket Club and Salford City Reds rugby league club.
